Ballyclare War Memorial park is located opposite Sixmile Leisure Centre on the banks of Sixmile River offering you the opportunity to feed the ducks and swans. The park offers a short walk and the centre of attraction is the war memorial and pergola full of flowers in spring. In the park there is a mound on the left hand side which is a 13th – century Norman motte buolt as a defensive outpost of Carrickfergus Castle. Soldiers reaching the river believed they had travelled six miles and began calling the river Six Mile Water.
