Coastguard Boat House

The only Coastguard Boat House you can sleep in on Belfast Lough. Less than two metres from the sea, an ideal location for a safe, secure stay as the Boat House is completed self-contained. Ideal for those who love to experience scenic sea views - and you can bring your dog (as four legged friends are welcome.)

Located less than ten minutes from Belfast City Centre, with a view of Belfast’s famous cranes from the bedroom and kitchen window and on the Causeway Coastal Route, the Coastguard Boat House enjoys an ideal location.

Car parking is provided on site, with a bus stop located less than 5 metres away, and the train station is a five minute walk. The village of Whiteabbey is a five minute walk with many family and dog friendly restaurants and bars, as well as a pharmacy and supermarket.

Shortlisted for the 2019 Belfast City Airport and Tourism NI Awards, the heritage building is not just a comfortable place to sleep but an immersive tourism experience. It dates back to the time when the Coastguard kept his Boat in the building in the 1890s and was always ready to tackle gin and gun smugglers on Belfast Lough. Located opposite the old Coal Pier (which is a listed monument), with shipwrecks on its doorstep, the Boat House has beamed ceilings, the original boat rigging and hooks, and a barred window. A visitor guide with the history of the Coastguard Boat House is also provided.

The Boat House has a slipway for visitor’s use with seating so you can watch cruise ships and mussel trawlers sail past. The Boat House has direct access to beach, cycle path and walk. A tidal clock is provided so you catch the low tide and explore the shoreline.

Renovated in December 2018, the Coastguard Boat House has all modern conveniences (a fully fitted kitchen with washer/dryer, microwave, cable TV and a power shower.) It has a high chair and cot bed for under 2s, and welcomes fur babies with dog feeding bowls, a spare lead and dog towels (for wiping paws after a good walk along the beach. Located on one of the most popular dog walking routes in NI, a 5 minute drive from Newtownabbey’s new dog activity park the Boat House is dog friendly.

The Boat House enjoys good levels of accessibility for people have mobility challenges, as it is on one level with no steps, has wide doors for wheelchairs throughout and a shower chair is provided.
The boat house is set on its own, in a private historical row of Coastguard Cottages. It has its own private entrance. The owners live nearby and are on hand to help as much or as little as required. The owners are Airbnb Superhosts four times over.

Since opening last year, the Coastguard Boat House has welcomed visitors from as far away as Alaska, Canada, Australia and America. Early booking is therefore advised.

The Boat house can sleep up to four adults plus a child under 12 in a King sized bed, double bed and double sofa bed.
