Between Worlds

This exhibition “Between Worlds” marks a milestone in Carole’s creative journey after many years of absence from studio practice. It also reflects a shift in her work from Realism to Abstract Expressionism. She works mainly with acrylic paint on canvas but frequently uses collage and other texture creating techniques and surfaces and works intuitively through gesture, mark making and the element of chance. Her paintings sit somewhere between memory and imagination and between what is known and what is still emerging. Writing has also become an important part of her creative practice and is sometimes included in the work directly or exists alongside as prose or verse, forming a quiet dialogue between language and image.
