This walking tour explores the two vastly different extremes of the class divide, in post-famine Antrim Town. The tour focuses on the contrasts of lifestyles lead by two different families in the mid-late 1800’s. The opulence of the Massereene family’s lifestyle at Antrim Castle, versus the dire poverty experienced by the Irvine family at Pogues Entry, in the Scotch Quarter of the town, just a few hundred metres away. In between the two, stands the All Saints Parish Church, dating back to 1596, on a 1000-year-old burial site – a place where both families congregated weekly and are still represented to this day.
